We live in Mexico!

June 26, 2008

Just a little friendly update- that's what notes are for, right- to write about yourself? We arrived Monday night safe and sound! Tuesday morning 10 people showed up at the door looking for someone I didn't know. Turns out that person had visited their village with a group last Friday and went back home to the U.S. on Sunday. We talked to them anyway! I got to translate a little bit- wasn't ready for that!

Yesterday we went to two villages: Carlos A. Madrazo and Nicolas Bravo. They are pretty far south, in fact, so far south that we could see Belize! We talked to the pastors in the first village about starting a Video Bible School (aka VBS). I translated for Ben (about 10 minutes worth). He told his story about how God called him to Mexico and what the VBS's do. Translating was pretty difficult, but fortunately the people here are very patient and understanding. Next, we headed off to deliver a walker to a little girl that Ben met during Operation Christmas Child. She had been using a chair as a walker to go places in her village! The roads there are pretty rough. I can't imagine how hard it was for her to go places! She was pretty excited about the walker and I hope it works out for her. I don't know that it's made for such rough terrain! We drove for another hour or so to the Belize border. There, we delivered the materials for a group of VBS-ers to begin their second trimester. Again, Ben spoke and I got to translate!

Now for a fun story about Little Jonny.Little Jonny wore his favorite pants and his favorite flip-flops into the village. Jonny's favorite pants had a hole in the bum; his favorite mother-in-law sewed them up. In the first village, little Jonny's favorite pants ripped. He also broke a shoe. On our way to the second village we gave a pastor and his son a ride into town. After we dropped them off, little Jonny decided to go from the "very back" of the Suburban to the back. As he was doing so, oh so gracefully, Ben stepped on the gas and thew him over the seat! Pobrecito! As he sat up and regained his composure, he discovered that he had broken another flip-flop. So poor Jonny was stuck with a hole in the bum of his pants, and no shoes before we were even half-way through the day. Never fear, Jamie saved the day. I found a little shoe store and bought him the biggest flip flips in town, which were probably about a size too small. Hims had a ruff day.

Well, that's pretty much what we've been doing. Oh yeah, we love it here....but we miss you! Come visit?

The twelve days of moving

June 11, 2008

We are officially down to a matress, nightstand, dresser, one chair, dining room table/chairs and coffee table. My beloved red couches are gone...along with Jonathon's beloved T.V. Thank goodness we are house-sitting this week or we would have no form of entertainment whatsoever!

I packed up my kitchen/bathroom towels today. I was quite proud of myself for using my towels as packing materials...so it was kinda like a double whammy! I found a lot of stuff from our wedding that I know I have NEVER used (although I am grateful for all of those things)!! For example, a crystal cake plate. I have only made one cake in my life and it fell apart when I tried taking it out of the pan. It was not served on the crystal cake plate. Another example would be a silver serving platter from Pottery Barn. Technically it was used once. Little Jonny saw that our regular baking pans were in the dishwasher (and clean), so he reached in the cabinet and pulled out our finest serving platter, dumped out half a bag of french fries and shoved it in the oven at a whopping 450 degrees! I almost had a cow...just because I know it was probably expensive and well, it's just too classy for frozen, crinkle-cut fries.

We are coming to our last week and a half in the U.S. We will be moving all of our stuff out of our apartment on Sunday...all 3 items. I'm starting to get that knot of excitement and nervousness in my stomach. I don't know why. I guess it could be the fact that I'm going to be living with my parents for a whole week! I'm just kidding- I love them and I'm sure it will be entertaining!Well, that's pretty much all I have to say about that. I'm a little bit sleepy...maybe it's because this blog is not very exciting. I promise more excitement and adventure once we get to Mexico!

The end.

And so it begins...

The first 6 boxes moved out on Saturday, thus beginning Phase I of "Operation Leave the Country". As I packed and packed and packed on Saturday, I realized what pack-rats we are. We claim that we're not that materialistic, but the amount of crap in the closet screams the opposite. I think our t-shirts multiply after we close the doors. (To throw them off, I've been leaving the doors open!)

So we have roughly 37 days until this move. I'm trying really hard to stay faithful and believe that God will provide the funding for this. It takes a lot of faith to just go and do what God says- especially on such short notice! I know this is what God wants and I know he will provide a way for this to happen, but I'm a sinful girl who likes to control things. Sometimes my urge to control takes over my faith, and because I can't do anything about it, I just end up freaking out inside my head! So if anyone actually reads this, please pray for me. I'm getting a little too excited over here.Well, this has been day one of our 37(ish) day journey to the airport. More freak-out blogs to follow.

Ma'alob et laak!

Hello friends! We have a fancy blob-site; how fun is that?! I am going to post some excerpts from our previous newsletters for those of you who haven't been receiving them in the past. Just thought it would be nice to catch you up on what we've been doing down here in the beautiful Carrillo Puerto for the last 10 months! Can you believe it's almost been a year? Wow!

We hope you all are doing well, and we hope you enjoy our little stories!
